Cholera violence in the Grand'Anse
On Thanksgiving Day there were three men in Jeremie accused of spreading cholera through a vodou powder. They were attacked by a mob, had tires put around their bodies, and were burnt alive. I wasn’t going to talk about this because I didn’t want to really freak my family and friends out, but the media has picked up on it so I may as well acknowledge it. This kind of activity is happening all over the Department, with killings reported in Leon, Moron, and Chambellan as well. I’ve been really busy with educational initiatives out in the mountains in the past week, and have seen a lot of ways that this fear is manifesting itself. More on this later…
